Fees
There are no hidden extras. Fees and client instructions are agreed and confirmed by a contract which contains the invoice, privacy policy, terms and conditions. Research is carried out under a signed contract with clear terms and conditions which clients are asked to read. My bespoke service can be helpful to those on a budget. Seat fees for research at the ScotlandsPeople Centre incur an additional £20 (per day) which will be added to the invoice. For commissions of 8 or 10 hours this will require two seat bookings. Please consider adding £20 towards credits for printing certificates/entries.

Part-payments are available by arrangement. Payment by BACS (Bank to Bank Transfer) if the preferred method of payment. However Cheques or Postal Order ‘made payable to Mrs Lorna Kinnaird’ is acceptable. PayPal is also acceptable but carries a PayPal processing fee of 10%. Western Union is also suitable for clients from Australia. Research commences once the fee has been paid and a date confirmed when the commission will be carried out. Clients should expect to receive their reports between 4-20 weeks depending on the research carried out and availability. I will aim to be diligent as best I can.
As a sole trader, the research is a service that is provided on the understanding that full fees will be paid timeously. Research carried out on behalf of Archives/Libraries both national and international – the full fee or at least 50% of the fee must be paid up front before work can progress. If the final invoice has not been paid within 8 weeks of completion of the works then a 10% default charge will be added to the invoice. If the final invoice has still not been paid within 12 weeks then 20% of the total amount due to that date will be invoiced. If the invoice remains unpaid by 16 weeks then it may be passed to Debt Collectors for recovery of the total outstanding fee.
