genealogy research in Scotland

Research Fees

There are no hidden extras. Fees and client instructions are agreed and confirmed by an Invoice. All genealogical work is carried out under a signed contract (usually agreed by email) with terms and conditions stated on my website.

My bespoke service can be as flexible to the client as necessary and is helpful to those on a budget.

My fee is £30 for the first hour then £27 per hour thereafter (I do a minimum of 4 hours). Document retrieval or carrying out simpler commissions are on an hourly rate.

I carry out a free preliminary search to ensure that there is a good starting point and sufficient records available for the research. Writing the findings into a report costs £20 per hour (and this is usually done on a ratio of the research hours). It is important that client's factor in an allowance for writing the findings.

Consultation (for those who want guidance as to how to research in Scotland) or a Research Plan prepared is charged between £20 and £25 per hour depending on the client remit.

Staged payments are available by arrangement. Payment by BACS is preferred but WORLDPAY and/or PayPal (additional transfer fee) is acceptable. Research only starts once the fee has been paid.
